She sleeps alone, she dreams unseen
With veil of gold and gown of green
Her dying heart drifts towards her doom
In dusty bed and crumbling room
Long ago she danced in wood
In flowery gown and silver hood
But dancing days have come to end
When soul is crushed and heart is rent
A spindle's strike to end the pain
Of a man's cruel lies and weeping rain
She fell to bed with bleeding heart
To dream a new day of hopeful start
Then comes a prince of soul straight and strong
Who walks in light, sings love's good song
Long has he wandered through dell and field
And sword of goodness he bravely wields
He saw a rose in room of stone
Beautiful, frightened, and alone
With kiss of love he brushed her face
And at his touch her dead heart did race
She opened eyes of weeping grey
And many words the two did say
He promised love, he promised good
He brought her again to the dancing wood
And once again she whirls and leaps
No longer princess whose heart still sleeps
For light had entered shadowy eyes
And now she laughs and never cries
