When I was a child
With wondering eyes
I was enchanted and wild
By both sea and skies
Now I am fully grown
The world seems dull and grey
No longer do I roam
In forest at my play
But Lord you let me see
The beauty in the land
Enchantment following me
All created by your hand
The golden dust of butterflies
The coldest blue of watery deep
The starry brilliance of night skies
The warm green fields where lambs sleep
The drumming rain of summer storm
The sweetest whisper of the wind
The cheerful songs of birds at morn
The sparkling splash of water skimmed
The salted drop of ocean's tears
The fire of adventure in autumn gust
The first spring harvest from winter's fears
The gritty grain of desert dust
The perfume of hyacinth bloom
The ruddy roast of tomatoes red
The tangy leaves of fall-time doom
The metallic ice of winter dead
The caress of the too-long grass
The springy mattress of damp moss
The forsythia jungle that holds me fast
The lively swirling of stream to cross
So old and young may see this day
Enchantment yet lies in the land
That sometimes seems so cold and grey
It still bears proof of Maker's hand.
There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy
Vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is, it was enchanting to meet you
Your eyes whispered, "Have we met?"
'Cross the room your silhouette
Starts to make its way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks
Like passing notes in secrecy
And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say is, I was enchanted to meet you
This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
The lingering question…
