It May Be

It may be that the sun is quenched
It may be that the moon turns to dust
It may be that the stars fall from the sky
But it will never be that they're hidden from His eye
It may be that the forest burns in the hearth
It may be that the seas cover all the earth
It may be that the mountains crumble to the ground
But it will never be that He does not hear the sound
Though the world may be cold, even dim
And creation groans for its Lord
Every bit of it is held by Him
Not a sound of it He has not heard
It may be that the oak falls in silence
It may be that the desert eats the field
It may be that once-fertile ground bears no more
But His creation God does not ignore
It may be that a brother slay a brother
It may be that a friend hate a friend
It may be that an unloved child dies forlorn
But it will never be He didn't see it born
Though the world may slip into dust
And the fallen pain grow in our land
Yet there is a King we can trust
Who holds every life close in His hand
