The Lord of Love

I have seen great evil's face
Of truth that lies, devoid of grace
Venomous fangs hid by gold-bright eye
A snake that bites until you die
I have seen the soul of hate
Gentleness devoured by words irate
The fruit of God replaced by rage
In darkest deeds it does engage
What once was good now turned to dust
From seeking that destroyed by rust
Pride forbidding in anguished soul
Rejecting Him who makes man whole
Yet I have seen what love looks like! A King of splendor, a Maker of light!
A Shepherd dying to save His sheep
Who beckons to us though we proudly sleep
A Lord who won the darkest fight
And sin and death from Him take flight
A Lord who wipes away our tears
A Lord whose might allays our fears
He sees the thought of every heart
He sees the acts which we take part
No dark can hide, no pride conceal
He roots out lies with justice zeal
Pure is His eye and perfection His way
To renew and judge He returns someday
Fear not the evil; it knows its end
With victorious King it must contend!
